I just use a pen and paper to draw them free hand, then scan my drawing. I use a program to size it. Sometimes I erase a mistake that way too. Especially when I have drawn on the same piece of paper and the drawings have overlapped.
I'd like to do more with graphic software. I keep meaning to put some time into learning Paint Shop Pro. I've had version 7 since it was new and not really done anything with it.
Sometimes I use the image search on Google for inspiration. That helped with drawing the houses for Halloween.
