Pond Snails

All the goldfish survived the winter. I was tossing in a bit of fish food and watching them when I noticed a snail in the pond too. How it got there I have no idea. I read that they came come when you buy pond plants. But, we haven't bought any plants except for one last summer. I counted at least five snails when I looked for them. I don't know what kind they are or if I should get rid of some, how many are too many? Anyway, interesting to find them living in the pond. If they are purely scavengers they are welcome, tons of dead leaves in the pond for them to feast on. But, if they eat the fresh growth we will have a problem. There are only two waterlilys in our pond and one is pretty sensitive. Anyway, will see how the new tenant works out. I took a photo, if anyone knows what kind of snail it is let me know.

(As always you can click on the photo to see it bigger).

Fashion in Bloom

My Skinny Garden has a couple of posts about The Gardens Magnificent Mile which have a theme going for fashion in bloom. Dress models are in the gardens along this street in Chicago, on Michigan Avenue, each one has been giving a different dress. Have a look here.

Poinsettia is Growing New Leaves

New life on the poinsettia planet. I've kept it alive over the winter. Seemed it was not making it overall. But, today I had a look and it is good! New growth at the top of it. That was nice to see.

Garden Angel

Hard to see it but she is holding a sundial above her head. Looked really good in the store but way more than I could spend on something non-essential. I did take her picture though.

Dahlia's from Sarah's Garden

These are dahlias from my sister's front garden. I took them this morning when I was out there to pick my Mom up. We also went to the GoodWill in Newmarket and I found the perfect desk for the computer whenever I finally move downtown. It's not a pressed board piece of junk, it's not too heavy to move around or to move in and it's not huge so it will fit into the small basement apartment. Also, it has a pull out shelf for the keyboard and a footrest thing or tower rest (depending on which is more tired at the time). I'm really glad to have a computer desk. Even though it's been months since I've actually seen my computer on and done anything with it. I miss it.

Did That Just Move?

It did! I was taking this picture and at the top of the big heap of fungus a cricket shoved it's way out. It was strange watching the fungus seem to bubble and boil up just before the cricket popped up. I tried to get his picture too but you can hardly see him as it is.

Stones, Rocks and Shells

I took these this afternoon. I love stones and rocks. The shells are a really nice touch too. Right from the backyard here. I used to have an 'L' shaped rock with a fossil on the bended part. I kept it for years cause it was the first letter of my name, so kind of a special rock to find. I don't know where it is now. Likely outside here in the rockpile too. I should look before I move. It would be easy for it to get left behind.

Really a Rock Garden

Graham must like rocks as much as I do. He has them all around his house. The gardens and lawn are huge there but around the house itself are just rocks and a very few cacti. (Yes, cactus in Canada, growing wild and outdoors all year long).

This is a rock picture from his house. I was looking forward to the rock pictures at least as much (maybe more) than the rose pictures. But they were the ones I took and goofed up. I did this one yesterday just before the camera decided it was full, 36 pictures were stored on it so that is better than a roll of film which gets 26 if you push it. Anyway, I will take more rock pictures next time I drive down there. This one I will keep but I will crop it before using it as desktop background.

Red Roses from My Brother's Garden

I took masses of pictures with the digital camera this afternoon. A ton from my Mother's garden and another ton from my brother's garden but of all of them only one showed up on the camera. I am pretty sure it's me that goofed. I should have double clicked or held the button down longer. Now that it's too late (not that I can't retake most of them tomorrow) I remember (kind of) reading that in the camera instructions. So, all I have for all those excellently framed and composed shots is one picture of red roses which I took in my brother's backyard. I used Picasa to get them from the camera to the computer and that seemed to work out fine. I'm quite sure it's just my oen goof up that did in the others. It's too bad cause some of the fancy plants in my Mother's garden will not be in bloom tomorrow. They are often a one day event.
