What to do with all those Rocks in your Head

Pebble Balancing and Rock Balance at Flickr. I don't know if they include inukshuk in that. It could though. I really liked this photo with the snow on the rocks. It can't be one they just created for the photo, it's been standing long enough to collect a drifting of snow.

Engraved Stones: Order Them Now

As much as I like rocks and stones I just can't see myself paying to have someone etch some blabbering on them. Most of these were pet dedications. They would be nice left in some garden or other. I do have one with a maple leaf carved into it. I don't think I'd like words, though I did pick out this picture from the website - Old World Stones.

The Odd Picture

You may look at this and think, "Why did she take such an odd picture?" Good for you. Keep wondering. Let me know if you come up with a good answer.

Newmarket Inukshuk

The Inukshuk of Newmarket, Ontario. Not quite famous yet. I took this picture at my brother's house a few days ago. His tenant built it. My brother isn't overly fond of it and says he won't leave it up. I thought it was pretty clever. Photo worthy for sure.

Living Stones Furniture

Livingstone. Sleep like a stone takes on a different slant.

This is furniture and pillows created to look like rocks. I think they're pretty good. I wonder if they are really built to last.

Neustadt Gates

Stone Gates in Neustadt, Ontario

When I was a baby we lived on this farm. I don't remember it but my Mother does. She says when we lived there the farm had a lot of these stone sculptures. At each corner of the farm property were smaller stone columns which had decorations on top. These gates have been in worse shape each time I see them. There are only two of the four corner columns left now. One has nothing left on top.

But, when we lived there the man who made them had a whole courtyard with much more fancy and labour intensive work. A farmer moved in after us and had all of that torn up. I don't think there are even any pictures of it. Once I did see the gates in a newspaper clipping. It's really nice that at least some of it can be kept in pictures.

Really a Rock Garden

Graham must like rocks as much as I do. He has them all around his house. The gardens and lawn are huge there but around the house itself are just rocks and a very few cacti. (Yes, cactus in Canada, growing wild and outdoors all year long).

This is a rock picture from his house. I was looking forward to the rock pictures at least as much (maybe more) than the rose pictures. But they were the ones I took and goofed up. I did this one yesterday just before the camera decided it was full, 36 pictures were stored on it so that is better than a roll of film which gets 26 if you push it. Anyway, I will take more rock pictures next time I drive down there. This one I will keep but I will crop it before using it as desktop background.
